Aboitiz InfraCapital upgrades safety systems at Bohol, Laguindingan airports

Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. said Monday it delivered a series of safety and contingency upgrades at Bohol-Panglao International Airport and Laguindingan International Airport to enhance passenger security and operational resilience.

The infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group said it implemented the measures in collaboration with the Department of Transportation and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. The upgrades mark the first phase of improvements since the company took over operations of the two provincial gateways in mid-2025 under multi-year concession agreements.

Aboitiz InfraCapital president and chief executive Cosette Canilao said the commitment goes beyond infrastructure and aims to make provincial gateways meet global standards while strengthening Philippine competitiveness in tourism and trade.

At Laguindingan International Airport, the company upgraded the fire detection alarm system to improve early hazard identification and evacuation response.

Team members at the facility also participated in a data assessment workshop earlier this month to ensure the accuracy of aeronautical information crucial for aircraft operations.

Improvements at Bohol-Panglao International Airport included technical assessments of firefighting equipment such as the fire pump house and booster pumps. The company also conducted specialized cleaning of the sewage treatment plant and ventilation systems to ensure environmental compliance and better air quality for travelers.

Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez lauded the initiative, noting that the upgrades reflect a successful public-private partnership strategy to modernize provincial hubs.

The two airports are part of a growing network managed by Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, which includes Mactan-Cebu International Airport.

The company expects its airport portfolio to handle about 16 million passengers by the end of 2025, accounting for more than 20 percent of total Philippine passenger traffic.

Under the development plan starting 2025, the company would undertake terminal restructuring and capacity expansion to manage increasing traveler volume. The group has positioned Bohol-Panglao as a primary leisure hub and Laguindingan as a service and logistics gateway for Mindanao.

Aboitiz InfraCapital, now in its 10th year, continues to develop water, digital and transport infrastructure projects across the Philippines.
