No more typhoons until New Year, but ‘amihan’ may bring light rains

No more tropical depression is expected to enter the Philippines in the remaining days of 2025, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration.

However, several parts of the country are forecast to experience light rains to thunderstorms due to other weather systems.

Weather forecaster Robert Badrina said “there is quite a slim possibility of having a typhoon until the end of 2025 based on the latest data gathered by PAGASA.”

The surge of the northeast monsoon is expected on Friday and Saturday to bring light rains in the eastern sections of Luzon, while scattered rain showers will prevail in the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas due to the easterlies until Saturday.

From Sunday to Monday, the northeast monsoon may weaken, but several parts of Luzon and the Visayas may still experience rains.

The rest of the country will have generally fair weather even if there will be light rains in Luzon and thunderstorms in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Earlier, the state weather bureau said between two to eight tropical cyclones may form within or enter the Philippine area of responsibility during the first half of 2026.

PAGASA also noted the prevailing weak La Niña may persist only through the first quarter of 2026.
