Benguet Provincial Police Office director Col. Lambert Suerte has been placed on medical leave effective December 22, the Benguet police confirmed.
In a statement, Suerte said he would temporarily step down to recover and asked personnel to support the incoming officer-in-charge.

Suerte was earlier relieved by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) over alleged lapses in the investigation into the death of former DPWH undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral.
The relief order was later revoked after Cabral’s family agreed to an autopsy of her remains.
Col. Ledon Monte has been designated officer-in-charge of the Benguet PPO while Suerte is on leave.
