Hollywood actor Chris Evans is officially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers in the upcoming blockbuster “Avengers: Doomsday,” Marvel Studios confirmed with the release of its first teaser.
The short teaser centers on Evans’ Steve Rogers, opening with the former Captain America riding his motorcycle home as a slowed-down piano version of the “Avengers” theme plays. Inside the house, Rogers is shown carefully putting away one of his Captain America suits before turning his attention to a newborn child, signaling a new chapter in his life. The clip ends with on-screen text confirming, “Steve Rogers Will Return in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’” along with a countdown to the film’s release next year.
Evans last portrayed Rogers in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” where the character traveled back in time and chose a quiet life with Peggy Carter, portrayed by Hayley Atwell, ultimately passing the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie. Mackie recently starred as the new Captain America in “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Since leaving the role, Evans has made brief appearances connected to Marvel, including a cameo reacting to the Captain America shield in “Free Guy” and reprising Johnny Storm in “Deadpool and Wolverine.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” will also mark the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the franchise, this time as villain Doctor Doom. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the film is set for a global release in December 2026.
