Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victory Remulla might just be ready to become president in 2028, but is Mrs. Remulla prepared to be a first lady?
It was program host Karen Davila who popped the question of Remulla’s possible 2028 presidential bid, which gave the latter chills but not quite cold feet.
“Oh my God, where did that come from?” the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) chief responded to Davila’s query.
He replied not with an “I do” but with a maybe: “It is a possibility. No conclusion yet, but it is a possibility.”
The Interior Secretary shared that among his considerations were the support of his wife and the likelihood of a “one-on-one fight.”
“The Philippines will have to choose between one version of how to govern and one version of the truth. The Philippines has to choose a common future that they think is believable, and they have to show a contrast between the two candidates, and I think that is important,” Remulla noted.
The DILG chief, a younger brother of Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, made the disclosure after being asked if he could be a potential bet of the Marcos administration.
Remulla traces his roots back to Cavite, a vote-rich province next to Cebu.
He served four non-consecutive terms as governor of Cavite and has been in politics for almost three decades.
As head of DILG, he is at the forefront in assisting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the exercise of general supervision over local governments.
Meanwhile, Remulla is also in the list of preferences in a recent survey conducted by WR Numero.
Among the top candidates were Vice President Sara Duterte, Senator Raffy Tulfo, and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.
Also in the list were Senators Christopher Go, Robinhood Padilla, and Risa Hontiveros, among others.
