Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers arrested a Chinese national in Intramuros who is wanted in his home country for alleged large-scale telecommunication fraud.
The suspect, identified as Sun Jianqing, was taken into custody after he went to the BI central office to apply for an extension of his temporary visitor’s visa.
Records showed Sun arrived in the Philippines on February 23 and had been staying in the country for about nine months.
BI officers discovered that Sun’s name was on the bureau’s blacklist of wanted foreign nationals linked to a telecommunication fraud syndicate.
Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said Sun will be deported after immigration proceedings, adding the Philippines will not be used to shield foreign fraudsters from justice.
