The Energy Regulatory Commission has approved the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ proposed Milaor 500kV substation project, estimated to cost P13 billion.
“After due deliberation, thorough evaluation of all the evidence submitted, and appreciation of all the information gathered, the Commission … hereby resolves to approve NGCP’s Milaor 500kV Substation Project, subject to optimization based on its actual use and verified expenses incurred,” the ERC said in its ruling.
The Milaor project is a generation entry initiative designed to provide a connection point for proposed offshore wind power projects in Camarines Sur. These wind projects have a combined capacity of approximately 3,000 megawatts, with target commissioning dates from 2027 to 2033.
The project will also complement the planned increase in transfer capacity for the Luzon-Visayas link. The Luzon-Visayas HVDC Bipolar Operation Project (LVHBOP) aims to double capacity from 440MW monopolar to 880MW bipolar operation.
The first phase of the project involves the installation of one 1,000 MVA transformer proposed to be completed in 2027 to accommodate the entry of new wind power projects.
The second phase is the installation of another one 1,000MVA transformer scheduled for completion in 2030.
