Water services in Barangay Tumana, Marikina City were finally restored on Saturday after Mayor Maan Teodoro settled a P15 million initial payment to Manila Water.
Mayor Teodoro, alongside Marikina 1st District Rep. Marcy Teodoro and members of the City Council, went to the Manila Water office in Tumana to hand over the check.
“Today, we paid P15 million to Manila Water as an initial payment for the immediate reconnection of water services to about 3,000 residents of Barangay Tumana,” Teodoro said in a statement.
After the payment, Teodoro and council members accompanied Maanila Water personnel as they opened the 13 valves servicing the barangay, immediately restoring water supply to residents.
During his term as mayor, Rep. Teodoro paid P8.8 million to the water concessionaire to reduce Tumana’s mounting debt, which was then about P20 million but later ballooned to more than P37 million as of this month.
The mayor said the local government will hold accountable officials responsible for failing to settle the P37 million debt.
“We will identify and hold accountable those responsible. They will be made to answer for this, and we will ensure this will never happen again,” she said.
