Pet-friendly resort hosts vet mission, supports animal welfare

Since opening in 2004, Sabangan Beach Resort has set the standard for pet-friendly hospitality in Batangas. Family-owned and operated by the Salvadors, it was the first resort in the area to welcome dogs and cats of all sizes and breeds—not just allowed, but genuinely embraced.

Pets can stay in guest rooms, explore the grounds, and enjoy the beach with their owners, provided basic cleanup guidelines are observed.

Building on this long-standing advocacy, Sabangan recently partnered with Pawssion Project and Pet Partner Philippines Inc. for a three-day, two-night beach retreat.

Led by Doc Gab of Pet Partner Philippines Inc., the event featured free veterinary consultations, rabies vaccinations, and kapon (deworming) services for community animals and pets of Sabangan staff. Volunteers delivered compassionate care, reinforcing a culture of shared responsibility for animal welfare.

“Our team noticed more community dogs coming into Sabangan, likely sensing a safe space. We also saw more pets from guests and staff, and wondered if they were getting regular vet care. Hosting a medical mission felt true to who we are as a pet-friendly resort—helping our community and their furbabies,” said Sabangan Beach Resort director Lisa Salvador-Bringas.

The resort further demonstrated its commitment with a P25,000 cash donation to Pawssion Project and another P25,000 worth of in-kind support for the Bulacan shelter. Since 2023, all proceeds from August pet check-ins have also been donated in celebration of Aspin Month.

“Before coming to Sabangan, I’d heard of ‘pet-friendly’ places that were anything but. Seeing the rescues happy on the beach, knowing diapers weren’t required, and experiencing a genuinely welcoming and eco-conscious environment showed what true pet-friendliness looks like,” said Pawssion Project founder Malou Perez.

Salvador-Bringas stressed that the goal of the resort has always been to create a place where families and their pets can feel at home.

“We’re proud to continue that legacy and support animal welfare in the community. By the shore, connections grow stronger. Our partnership with Pawssion Project showed how community, care, and compassion can thrive alongside relaxation and joy,” she said.
