Ballet Manila, the country’s most solidly trained classical ballet company, kicks off the year on a high note as it once again enchants ballet fans with the world premiere ofSleeping Beauty, the well-loved classic tale of first love, enchantment, and goodness prevailing over evil.
The staging of Sleeping Beauty is a triumphant move for Ballet Manila which, recently suffered a huge loss after the devastating Star City blaze which razed its home, Aliw Theater. Ballet Manila has announced that Sleeping Beauty is now scheduled on Jan. 18 at 6:00 p.m. and Jan. 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila.
The conclusion of the Princess Trilogy by Ballet Manila CEO and artistic director Lisa Macuja Elizalde, Sleeping Beauty is a retelling of the well-loved fairy tale featuring new elements that were conceptualized by the prima ballerina herself. Macuja Elizalde modified this classic work and made sure that this version will reflect her company’s sophisticated talent and creativity.
For Ballet Manila’s Sleeping Beauty, ballet fans can expect new characters, interesting crossovers, added storylines, more choreography, and unexpected twists. Marrying traditional and contemporary elements, this enchanting spectacle is something to truly something that ballet fans and enthusiasts can look forward to.
Leading the ensemble is principal dancer Jasmine Pia Dames who will take on the role of Aurora, while her fellow principal dancer Romeo Peralta will be her love interest, Prince Phillip. Other cast members include Mark Sumaylo, Rissa May Camaclang, Joan Sia, Gerardo Francisco, Rafael Perez, Alvin Dictado, Shaira Comeros, and Emma Harris.
