The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) formalized its partnership with the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) to boost the youth employability in the IT & Business Process Management (IT-BPM) sector.
In a ceremony held recently at Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga, Labor Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma and IBPAP Chief Operating Officer Celeste Ilagan led the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to expand the implementation of the JobStart Philippines Program in the IT-BPM sector by providing career counselling, soft/core skills training, industry-specific technical training, and internships that are aligned with the needs of the labor market.
To enhance youth employability, this initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration’s commitment to uplifting the lives of Filipinos by generating more employment opportunities.
To ensure a robust talent pipeline, DOLE and IBPAP will match JobStart trainees with industry-relevant skills, support displaced or at-risk workers in transitioning to in-demand jobs, engage industry stakeholders in recruitment, training, and mentoring, and expand career opportunities.
Support for IT-BPM MSMEs
Additionally, DOLE and IBPAP also agreed to collaborate in promoting and implementing the DOLE Adjustment Measures Program (AMP) in the IT-BPM sector.
Through the AMP, DOLE provides support to business projects for the common benefit of workers and employers in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which is aligned with the current administration’s goal of building a resilient and innovative MSME sector.
Under the partnership, DOLE shall provide qualified IBPAP members with needed technical and administrative support, including assistance for capacity-building, business enhancement, just transition, product development, reward systems and productivity improvement, labor compliance, and industrial peace-building measures.
The Labor Department, through its various regional offices, shall also ensure proper implementation and monitoring of the JSP and AMP at the local level.
To help ensure the programs’ success, IBPAP shall also assist in the promotion of both programs within its extensive network.
