Filipino consumers are increasingly prioritizing long-term value and authenticity over impulse buys, according to data from the Lazada 12.12 All Out Pasko Sale.
The platform reported a significant evolution in local shopping habits, with electronics leading the year-end campaign by posting an 11-fold increase in gross merchandise value compared to typical business-as-usual periods.
Lazada Philippines chief executive Carlos Barrera said the 12.12 event demonstrated that shoppers are becoming more intentional. Barrera noted that consumers are placing greater importance on verified quality and durability as they invest in reliable devices to upgrade their homes.
The shift toward high-value purchases was driven largely by middle-class households using ecommerce to enhance their living environments through smart devices and entertainment systems.
Top-performing brands during the period included Samsung, Dyson, JBL, Nike, POCO, Colgate, UFC, BLK Cosmetics and DDPAI.
Growth was also recorded in the beauty and home categories on LazMall, where shoppers sought products emphasizing safety and trust.
Lazada attributed the confidence in purchasing higher-value items to its 100 percent authenticity guarantee, reliable delivery and hassle-free return policies.
Market research supports this trend, as a recent Cube Asia report found that nearly 90 percent of online shoppers engage with authenticated stores. The study also revealed that a majority of consumers are willing to pay a premium for verified quality.
The data highlighted the prevalence of “showrooming,” a behavior where consumers inspect items in physical stores before buying them online. In the Philippines, 77 percent of shoppers engage in this practice to secure better prices and exclusive deals.
The trend is most prominent in beauty at 76 percent, electronics at 74 percent and lifestyle categories at 71 percent.
Lazada also saw a 30-percent increase in engagement through its affiliate-led initiatives, including a partnership with YouTube Shopping. The platform indicated that content creators and reviewers are playing a larger role in guiding informed purchase decisions.
The shopping experience was further supported by a new membership program. The initiative provided higher-tier members with exclusive deals, enhanced daily vouchers and personalized recommendations to streamline product discovery during the festive season.
