Suarez still waiting for rematch with WBO champ Navarrete

CHARLY Suarez continues to wait for a rematch with Emanuel Navarrete to happen.

Navarrete, the current holder of the World Boxing Organization junior lightweight title, is supposed to fight Nunez world title unification bout.

But after his manager Ricky Navalta filed a grievance complaint that found its way in the hands of the WBO on Tuesday, Suarez training and preparations have now shifted.

“I’m waiting for Navarrete,” said Suarez, now that officials of the WBO are now reviewing his case.

Navalta, Suarez and his coach Delfin Boholst, made the announcement during a media conference at the Manila Yacht Club.

Details of the complaint will remain private, until the WBO, the sanctioning body involved, makes a decision, according to Navalta.

Suarez, whose bout was supported by businessman-sportsman Luis “Chavit” Singson, fought Navarrete last May 10 for a title bout with the Mexican ruled as the winner.

The result was put under protest by Navalta.

“We decided to inquire, and found out that they (promoters) decided to forget about the rematch, and what the status of the fight was,” said Navalta, after the decision was overturned, and ruled a no-contest by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

In the CSAC’s decision, it was determined the cut on Navarrete’s eye came from a punch by Suarez and not from a headbutt.

Navarrete, who has a record of 39 wins, two losses and a draw, is supposed to have a mandatory rematch with Suarez following the verdict.

Instead, his promoter Bob Arum’s Top Rank set up Navarrete for a clash with Eduardo “Sugar” Nuñez  in a major world title unification bout on February 28, 2026.

“As of now, the WBO has decided to look into our grievances. They will review the case and make sure that all procedures are followed,” said Navalta.

Suarez’s team is actively seeking immediate clarification from the WBO regarding the status of the ordered rematch and his rights as the mandatory challenger.
