TACLOBAN CITY—Seventeen (17) young job seekers from Tacloban City were hired on the spot during a mini job fair held as part of their graduation from the Soft/Core Skills Training (SCST) under the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) JobStart Philippines Program.
The training program is aligned with the key priority human resource development agenda of the Marcos Jr. administration, which also seeks to provide more opportunities for the country’s youth.
Successfully completed by 85 youth, the event was facilitated by DOLE-RO8 through its North Leyte Field Office, in partnership with Tacloban City PESO. The 10-day Special Career Start Training (SCST) featured 30 modules organized into three key areas: Job Readiness and Core Workplace Skills, Personal Development and Interpersonal Skills, and Life Skills, Wellness, and Long-Term Planning.
The training covered essential topics such as Effective Communication, Work Ethics, Digital Literacy, Conflict Management, Mental Health Awareness, and Personal Responsibility. These modules were designed to be practical and applicable in real-world work environments.
In his message during the ceremony, DOLE Regional Office 8 (DOLE-RO8) Assistant Regional Director Norman L. Uyvico extended his warm congratulations, urging them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
“The skills you’ve gained through the JobStart Program are tools you’ll carry with you through every challenge, every interview, and every opportunity,” Uyvico said.
Companies that participated in the mini job fair were Hildevanne Food Corp. (Shakey’s Tacloban), Mang Inasal (Suthersteve Foods Inc.), Jucons Construction OPC, McCarol Ventures (McDonald’s), and Du99 Commercial Corp. The event concluded with a distribution of SCST allowance amounting to P4,200 to each trainee, which was distributed to support their transition into the workforce. The event was also attended by DOLE-North Leyte Field Office Chief Engr. Emmanuel Y. de la Cruz and Tacloban City Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Manager Ruena M. Mate.
With the SCST completed, beneficiaries now advance to technical training and internships, marking a key step in DOLE’s nationwide effort to boost youth employment and strengthen workforce readiness across the regions.
