Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has launched its first battery electric vehicle (BEV) under the Toyota brand, the all-new bZ4X, with the release of initial units to customers, marking a major expansion of the company’s electric vehicle lineup in the country.
The introduction of the bZ4X strengthens TMP’s commitment to its multi-pathway approach to carbon-neutral mobility, which began with the Prius Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) in 2009. The company now offers the widest range of electrified vehicles, or xEVs, in the Philippines with 22 models under the Toyota and Lexus brands.
“It takes time and strategic planning to roll out what we call our multi-pathway approach to carbon neutral mobility, which involves customer education and preparedness, and providing technologies and solutions that are most appropriate for the market’s needs,” said Elijah Marcial, Toyota Motor Philippines first vice president for vehicle sales operations.
“From building up our widest lineup of Hybrid Electric Vehicles and introducing Battery Electric Vehicles through our luxury brand Lexus, we believe we are ready to make BEVs more mainstream with the Toyota bZ4X,” said Marcial.
The all-wheel drive bZ4X features a 73.11 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and dual motors, providing a front output of 227 PS and a rear output of 120 PS.
Torque figures are 269 Nm in the front and 170 Nm in the rear. The vehicle records up to 570 kilometers of EV range based on United Nations Regulations 101, although actual consumption and range will vary. Drive modes include Eco and X-Mode.
The 5-seater electric SUV boasts an angular exterior design, LED headlights, 20-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic moonroof. It has a ground clearance of 200 millimeters. Inside, it features synthetic leather seats with built-in heating in both front and rear rows, along with ventilation for the front seats. The driver also benefits from an 8-way power seat with memory settings.
For technology and connectivity, the bZ4X is equipped with a 7-inch digital meter cluster and multi-information display, a 14-inch display audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless charging ports in front and USB Type C chargers in the front and rear.
The bZ4X prioritizes safety with the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite. Features include Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Adaptive High Beam System, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Blind Spot and Panoramic View Monitors and a Digital Inside Rearview Mirror offer additional assistance for drivers.
Pricing for the single-variant bZ4X starts at P2,699,000 for the Dark Blue Mica/Attitude Black Mica colorway. The Platinum White Pearl Mica/Attitude Black Mica colorway is priced at P2,714,000 and the Precious Metal/Attitude Black Mica and Emotional Red/Attitude Black Mica colorways are P2,719,000. Each purchase includes a free wall box charger and a portable charger.
