Philippines readies hosting of 2026 ASEAN Summit

The Philippines is gearing up to host the 2026 ASEAN Summit with a strategic focus on advancing regional cooperation, strengthening economic ties, and reinforcing security partnerships amid a complex geopolitical environment.

Senior officials from ASEAN and the Republic of Korea expressed strong support for Manila’s leadership role during a forum held Friday in Manila. The event is part of ongoing efforts to reinforce ASEAN–Korea cooperation ahead of high-level dialogues and regional summits.

Korean Ambassador Lee Sang Hwa affirmed Korea’s full support for the Philippines as the incoming ASEAN Chair. He noted that ASEAN is now Korea’s third-largest trading partner and its most preferred travel destination.

Pangasinan Rep. Maria Rachel Arenas said the Chairship theme, “Navigating Our Future Together,” reflects an agenda that includes competitiveness, inclusive growth, technological collaboration, and maritime security.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Theresa Dizon-De Vega said the Philippines will drive cooperation that is pragmatic, forward-looking, and responsive to real needs, while safeguarding ASEAN Centrality.
