Ateneo de Manila University has taken a major step toward cleaner and more sustainable operations, shifting to renewable energy (RE) under the government’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
The move comes five years ahead of the university’s internal schedule for clean power transition.
The RAP allows institutions to combine multiple electricity accounts, enabling them to qualify for retail competition and open access. This lets large consumers like Ateneo directly choose their electricity supplier for more affordable, cleaner, and flexible power options.
Ateneo selected Jin Navitas Electric Corp. (JNEC) as its retail electricity supplier. JNEC now powers the Blue Eagle Gym and the Pasig and Salcedo campuses with renewable energy sourced from its affiliated solar projects, including the NINGNING solar rooftop project.
The NINGNING project, developed by SOLARIS (JNEC’s affiliated renewable energy company), is the world’s first grid-connected, utility-scale solar rooftop installation embedded within a social housing community.
Ateneo leaders emphasized the strategic and mission-aligned nature of the shift, with Vice President for Administration Rodolfo Ang reaffirming the university’s commitment to achieving a zero carbon footprint by 2030.
