The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), through its Ilocos Regional Office, takes stronger steps toward a child-labor-free Philippines, as it held an Information and Service Caravan in Vintar, Ilocos Norte, advancing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push for strengthened child protection and family welfare.
Around 100 child laborers and their parents benefited from the caravan, which provided free health check-ups, legal consultations, grooming services, and recreational activities.
Through the collaborative partnership of the Regional Council Against Child Labor (RCACL) and the local government units (LGUs) and the public employment service offices (PESOs) of Vintar, Laoag, Piddig, and Pasuquin in Ilocos Norte, participating children enjoyed interactive activities such as parlor games and an inflatable playground, among others.
School supplies, food packs, hygiene kits, and financial aid were also distributed during the caravan through the Project Angel Tree, where 47 parents of child laborers received rice and agricultural supplies amounting to a total of PHP 999,076 to support their livelihoods.
Such efforts, carried out under the Department’s Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) in collaboration with government agencies, LGUs, and partners, aim to free children from unsafe work while opening paths to education and family livelihood.
