Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson Angelina Escalona on Friday said one Filipino domestic worker remains missing after a level 5 fire engulfed a residential complex in Tai Po in New Territories, Hong Kong, on Wednesday.
Speaking to Manila Standard, Escalona said that as of this afternoon, the other Filipino domestic worker who was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) yesterday is in “stable condition and is expected to recover soon.”
She also denied reports that a Filipino was killed in the fire, noting that the matter is still up for verification.
The Foreign Affairs Department, through the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, yesterday reported that a total of 23 Filipinos need welfare assistance.
As of writing, reports indicate that at least 128 people have died, 79 individuals have been injured, 16 bodies remain inside the buildings, and dozens of people are still missing.
