Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso engaged in a dialogue with teaching personnel from Basilan National High School (BNHS) in Isabela City, Basilan, promising to evaluate the school for the agency’s 2026 Adopt-A-School Program following discussions on member concerns and the school’s needs.
The dialogue served as a crucial platform for the GSIS leadership to gather direct input from the education sector on enhancing service delivery and ensuring GSIS programs are responsive to members, especially those in the provinces.
BNHS, one of the leading secondary schools in the Isabela City Schools Division, serves a student population of 8,000 across its junior and senior high school programs. Recognizing the challenges faced by the large institution, Veloso endorsed an evaluation for its inclusion in the Adopt-A-School initiative.
The GSIS Adopt-A-School Program is a long-running corporate social responsibility effort in partnership with the Department of Education. It focuses on providing technology and learning support to public schools nationwide, specifically allocating funds to upgrade facilities and digital tools in “last-mile” and underserved schools.
During the open forum, teachers highlighted several key issues for the pension fund to address, including the resumption of the grant of dividends and the enhancement of the GSIS Educational Subsidy Program (GESP). They proposed expanding GESP coverage to include legal dependents such as nephews and nieces, and extending eligibility to college students across all year levels.
The visit to Basilan reinforces the pension fund’s commitment to bringing its services closer to members and ensuring that policy decisions are informed by the actual concerns of government employees.
