Joy~Nostalg Group launches $34-million social housing solar project

The Joy~Nostalg Group, led by businessman Jacinto Ng Jr., has inaugurated the NING*NING solar rooftop project in Naic, Cavite, the world’s first grid-connected utility-scale solar rooftop initiative within a socialized housing community.

The project, a global first in social housing made accessible through zero equity, is part of the group’s P1.88 billion plan to complete rooftop solar projects across four housing developments by 2027, totaling 34.573 MWac capacity.

The NING*NING pilot project in Naic benefited 1,996 homes with the installation of 11,916 solar panels, achieving a 4.95 MW capacity at a cost of P344 million.

The initiative allows homeowners to become co-creators of clean energy by installing rooftop solar panels on each Pasinaraw home that feeds power directly to the grid. Homeowners sign a usufruct agreement with Solaris, legally allowing Solaris to use the rooftop for up to 50 years. Solaris installs and maintains the panels while retaining ownership, removing the P50,000 upfront cost for the homeowner.

The project’s synergy between Extraordinary Enclaves and Solaris enabled Joy~Nostalg to hold the initial price of homes at P580,000 per unit in 2023, keeping them at or below the socialized housing price ceiling despite market viable prices rising to about P600,000 to 630,000 due to cost increases.

NING*NING homes are sold for P700,000 to 750,000 today, remaining below the current socialized housing price ceiling of P850,000.

Beyond energy, the project includes facilities that upgrade the community, such as CCTVs installed across Pasinaya for monitoring solar panel installations and ensuring community safety. Proceeds from the Community Assurance Support fund cover free roof maintenance, street lighting, waste management and other community programs.

The three other planned projects are: Muzon-Labac with a capacity of 15.745 MWac covering 5,384 houses and 32,304 solar panels, costing P815 million with an estimated completion of end 2026.

The Sta Maria, Bulacan project would have a capacity of 6.078 MWac for completion in end-2027. Around 11,694 solar panels will be installed in 1,194 homes at a cost of P308 million.

The Dolores, Pampanga project is expected to be completed by end-2027 with a capacity of 7.8 MW at a cost of P411 million. A total of 15,564 solar panels will be installed in 2,594 homes.
