Ilocos Sur fisherfolk hailed as heroes, receive DOLE livelihood

Fisherfolk from Ilocos Sur, honored as heroes for returning illegal drugs they discovered at sea, received livelihood assistance from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Through the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) and in collaboration with the Philippine National Police Regional Office 1 (PNP RO1), each received a motorized banca and fishing equipment, amounting to a total of P795,000. Such is also in line with the Marcos administration’s efforts to continuously assist Filipino workers in rural communities.

The beneficiaries were also enrolled in a one-year insurance program through the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), ensuring protection and welfare for themselves and their families.

The DOLE Ilocos Region praised the local heroes for their integrity and bravery, noting that their actions not only safeguarded their communities but also served as an inspiration for others.

Through the assistance, DOLE hopes to help them sustain their honorable work at sea and ensure their safety, as well as the welfare of their families. END/DOLERO1/JLO
