Businessman-sportsman Anthony “Tony Boy” Liao is the new president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation.
Liao, who chairman of the Premier Volleyball League, replaced Ramon “Tats” Suzara, after he was unanimously elected president.
Officials say that this sets a new chapter for volleyball in the country, after Suzara took charge of the federation for the last four years.
Dr. Arnel Hajan joined Liao in the board as chairman , with Yul Benoza as vice president, Dr. Otie Camangian as secretary general, Ricky Palou as treasurer, and Roger Banzuela as auditor.
The rest of the 13-member board includes Maria Socorro Calleja, Fr. Vic Calvo, Charo Soriano, Edward Lee, Danilo Cong-o, Sherwin Maganda, and Miko Vargas.
The PNVF’s 48 stakeholders convened following twice-delayed elections to choose 13 members of the new board.
It pushed through on Friday at The Vault restaurant in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Liao was previously a board member and head of the National Teams Commission.
Before Liao was elected, Suzara headed the PNVF for four years.
He was among the key players in organizing the Shakey’s V-League, which later became the Premier Volleyball League, the country’s first professional volleyball league.
The new PNVF chief also served as team manager for UAAP programs De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University.
With the PNVF now in his leadership, Liao aims to continue developing national teams, expanding professional leagues, and strengthening grassroots programs across the Philippines.
