PHINMA Education, the largest higher education network in Southeast Asia, has expanded its reach in Indonesia with a new 10-story building at Horizon University Indonesia in Karawang, West Java, increasing capacity to nearly 10,000 students.
The expansion will allow the university to serve 7,000 more underserved students, aligning with PHINMA Education’s core mission to provide accessible, high-quality education across Southeast Asia. The new facility is now the tallest university building in Karawang.
Attending the inauguration of the Horizon East building were PHINMA chief executive Ramon del Rosario Jr., PHINMA Education president and chief executive Chito Salazar, PHINMA Education country head for Indonesia Dr. Raymundo Reyes, Triputra Persada Horizon Education Foundation chairman Ade Hendriawan, Triputra Group president/director Tjandra Karya Hermanto, Triputra Group vice president/commissioner Hadi Kasim, along with local government officials and industry partners.
“Across the PHINMA Group, our mission has always been to unlock opportunities for underserved families: by providing homes, building better infrastructure, creating jobs through hospitality and opening doors through education,” said del Rosario.
“This building is a testament of our earnest desire to give the best to our students, because they deserve nothing less than the best education,” he said.
PHINMA Education established its presence in Indonesia in 2019 as an education partner of the Triputra Persada Horizon Education Foundation. The partnership manages Horizon University Indonesia in Karawang and Kalbis University in Jakarta, both of which are part of the Horizon Education network. The network aims to cultivate “global Indonesians” prepared for leadership, employment and meaningful national contribution.
Horizon University Indonesia has already received high recognition for its academic programs, with Nursing, Accounting and Management programs achieving high accreditation from the Indonesian Ministry of Education.
The university recently earned the best passing rate award for the Indonesian Professional Nursing Competency Examination in West Java. It also reported a 100-percent passing rate in nursing and midwifery, and an overall employment rate of 86 percent, underscoring its focus on job readiness.
Following this expansion, Horizon University Indonesia plans to introduce new programs in Education and Social Sciences, which will complement existing courses in Health, IT and Business. Kalbis University also plans to launch Nursing, Midwifery and Education programs soon.
The next phase of expansion is already underway.
“Our next step is East Java,” said Reyes.
“By establishing a campus in Surabaya, we will open our doors to serve a market of 100,000 graduating SHS students. With campuses in both West and East Java… Horizon Education will be well-positioned to broaden its reach and make quality education even more accessible,” he said.
