Globe Telecom said Monday it is accelerating network restoration and relief operations for communities battered by Typhoons Uwan and Tino.
The telecommunications firm said it mobilized its “Libreng Tawag, Charging, and WiFi” (LT/LC/LW) services and distributed meals as part of its continuing relief efforts.
This comes as “Uwan” weakened into a typhoon and moved over the coastal waters of Bacnotan, La Union. Heavy rainfall, strong winds and storm surges are expected across Luzon, including Metro Manila, before Uwan is forecasted to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility early Tuesday.
Globe activated LT/LC/LW services in eight confirmed areas: Cauayan City, Isabela; two sites in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte; Talavera, Nueva Ecija; Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija; Guimba, Nueva Ecija; Naga City, Camarines Sur; and Lasam, Cagayan. Additional stations are being activated in other affected provinces.
Through its Alagang Globe program, the company distributed 600 meals to 200 families in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, and Aparri, Cagayan, to aid communities impacted by the storm.
Network restoration is progressing steadily following the typhoons. The company reported 100-percent network availability in Aklan, Antique, Biliran, Bohol, Capiz, Eastern Samar, Guimaras, Iloilo, Northern Samar, Western Samar and Siquijor.
Restoration efforts are ongoing, with Palawan at 99 percent availability, Cebu at 95.5 percent, Leyte at 93.3 percent, Negros Oriental at 98 percent, Negros Occidental at 79 percent, and Southern Leyte at 67 percent.
Globe said it also continues to provide connectivity and assistance in areas previously hit by Typhoon Tino, maintaining 100 percent network availability in Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte, 99.9 percent in Palawan (SLZ), and 99.27 percent in Cebu Province. Libreng Charging and WiFi stations remain active from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. from November 9 to 11 in four Cebu City barangays: Guba, Angsungot, Binaliw, and Cambinucot.
