The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has granted a three-month grace period on emergency loan payments for its members and pensioners in areas affected by Typhoons Tino and Uwan.
The move is designed to offer crucial financial flexibility as Filipinos begin the difficult task of rebuilding their homes and livelihoods following the widespread devastation.
GSIS president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso cited the importance of the reprieve. “This grace period is more than just a financial reprieve—it is a lifeline,” he said.
“By deferring their loan payments, we are giving them the time and space to heal, rebuild, and move forward without the immediate pressure of financial obligations,” said Veloso.
The GSIS said its board of trustees has fully backed the measure, which aligns with the institution’s mandate to protect the welfare of its members and pensioners during times of national hardship.
The GSIS Emergency Loan Program, which opened on Nov. 7, 2025, will remain available until Feb. 7, 2026. Eligible members and pensioners can apply online via the GSIS website, the GSIS Touch mobile app or by visiting the nearest GSIS office.
Under the approved payment deferment, no loan payments will be due until 2026. Loans granted in November 2025 will begin amortization in March 2026, with the first payment due on or before April 10, 2026.
Loans released in December 2025 will start in April 2026, payable on or before May 10, 2026. Those granted in January 2026 will begin in June 2026, payable by July 10, 2026, and loans released in February 2026 will start in July 2026, with payments due by Aug. 10, 2026.
The three-month breathing space aims to help borrowers regain financial stability before regular payments resume.
The GSIS said this initiative complements Proclamation No. 1077, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Nov. 5, 2025, which declared a state of national calamity for 1 year following Typhoon Tino’s destruction.
The declaration aims to speed up and coordinate nationwide relief, recovery and rehabilitation efforts. The GSIS said it remains committed to compassionate service as the country also braces for Super Typhoon Uwan, which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Nov. 7, 2025.
