Sale of fake motorcycle parts addressed with ‘No to Counterfeit’ campaign

The Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) held a dual-event initiative focusing both on industry growth forecasting and strengthening consumer protection against fake motorcycle components. In cooperation with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), a product and branding seminar was conducted to equip members of the National Coalition for the Intellectual Property Rights (NCIPR) Enforcers—including delegates from the NBI, PNP, BOC, and DTI—with the knowledge required to differentiate genuine motorcycle parts from counterfeitsThis action directly addresses the increasing circulation of fake parts, particularly on e-commerce platforms, which the association notes poses a serious threat to rider safety and product reliability.

Coincidingly, the MDPPA also convened a press conference to release its updated sales projections. The association reported a total of 1,398,314 motorcycle units sold from January to September 2025, with forecasts predicting an additional 395,000 units sold by year-end, which would bring the 2025 total to 1,793,219 units – a 6.7 percent increase over the previous year. Looking ahead, MDPPA President Alex Cumpas shared an optimistic outlook for 2026, projecting a 4 percent industry growth that would push annual sales beyond the 1.85-million mark. The continued growth is attributed to the motorcycle’s status as the preferred mobility option for Filipinos due to affordability, fuel-efficiency, and ease of use in traffic.
