CREC wins big in Green Energy Auction with 1.2 GW of capacity

Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. (CREC), a leading pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, was one of the largest winners in the government’s Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP)-4, securing 1,212 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity.

The Department of Energy (DOE) awarded the capacity on Nov. 6, 2025, to CREC, which placed bids for multiple ground-mounted solar and Integrated Renewable Energy and Energy Storage System (IRESS) projects. The bidding for GEAP-four was conducted on Sept. 2, 2025.

These projects are planned for provinces including Isabela, Batangas, Quezon and Negros Occidental, with delivery dates scheduled between 2026 and 2029.

CREC president and chief executive Oliver Tan reiterated the company’s commitment.  “Bidding in the green energy auction signifies our commitment to deliver more renewable energy projects in line with DOE’s 50-percent in 2050. This is no easy task for any energy player, but we accept this challenge as part of our full support to the government’s clean energy goals,” he said.

CREC has a substantial history of participating in the government’s clean energy initiatives. In 2023, the company secured about 916 MWp of solar and onshore wind capacities during GEAP-2, set for completion between 2025 and 2028.

These projects are part of CREC’s ambitious five-year plan to complete one gigawatt (GW) per year, totaling 5 GW.

Projects from GEAP-2, such as Citicore Solar Batangas two in Tuy, will incorporate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

This technology will enable the facility to achieve a “baseload” level of power, potentially allowing the solar plant to dispatch renewable energy 24/7.

To support its expansion, CREC strengthened its partnership with Pentagreen Capital in September 2025, securing a $55-million loan for its projects.

“We have the proof of concept through our recent Solar with BESS Energization, and with more investors believing in us, we will go full steam ahead with our succeeding gigawatts,” said Tan.
