Senate to formally invite Romualdez over infra probe—Sotto

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Wednesday he plans to meet with Speaker Faustino Dy III and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez to discuss the latter’s possible appearance before the Senate inquiry into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

Sotto said the meeting would help formalize the invitation for Romualdez to testify before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.

“I’ve already arranged a meeting. Within the next few days, we’ll be able to talk once our schedules open up,” he said.

The Senate chief said the invitation could either be extended directly to Romualdez or through Dy in observance of inter-parliamentary courtesy.

Sotto explained that the Senate must follow proper protocol when reaching out to a sitting member of the House of Representatives.

The planned discussion, according to him, is consistent with the advice of Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo Lacson, who recently expressed his willingness to return to his post as chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee.

Sotto added that the committee may also consider inviting former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co, who is linked to the same floor control controversy.
