PAGASA: 2 or 3 cyclones likely to pass Philippines in November

At least two to three tropical cyclones are likely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in November, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The three cyclones, once they enter the country, would be named “Tino,” “Uwan” and “Verbena.”

At present, at least four weather systems are affecting parts of the Philippines based on the general advisory released by PAGASA as of 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30.

The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) brings cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, as well as Misamis Occidental and Lanao del Norte.

The ITCZ is also the prevailing weather condition over the Bicol region, rest of Visayas and the rest of Mindanao. The rest of Luzon is affected by localized thunderstorms.

The shear line is affecting Cagayan, Isabela and Aurora while the northeast monsoon or ‘amihan’ is felt across Batanes characterized by cloudy skies with light rains.

PAGASA said three low pressure areas (LPA) may develop by November 4, one of which has a chance to become a tropical depression within the Visayas island group inside an ITCZ.

Two other LPAs may develop outside the Philippines, specifically within the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, an LPA is likely to transform into a tropical depression either by Sunday, November 2—which is All Souls’ Day—or Monday, November, according to PAGASA. It will be named ‘Tino.’
