Manny Pacquiao has confirmed that talks are underway for a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., while a showdown with Vasyl Lomachenko is also being considered.
Pacquiao announced on Wednesday during a press conference at Novotel Manila in Quezon City, where he was formally introduced as vice president of the International Boxing Association (IBA).
“There’s a lot of negotiation right now, so it’s hard to preempt what fight I’m going to push through,” Pacquiao said. “There’s a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather, a fight with Lomachenko, and other options. Soon, we’ll announce the final decision.”
The 46-year-old boxing legend came out of a four-year retirement last July and fought Mario Barrios to a draw, bringing his record to 62 wins, 8 losses, and 3 draws.
“I’d love to have a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. I hope in our negotiation, we can understand each other and make it happen,” he said.
Pacquiao said he prefers to face Mayweather again — ten years after their 2015 “Fight of the Century,” which Mayweather won via unanimous decision.
The 48-year-old Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record, though he has continued to appear in exhibition bouts.
Meanwhile, Lomachenko, 37, announced his retirement last June after scoring an 11th-round knockout win over George Kambosos Jr. The Ukrainian star, who holds an 18-3 record, could reconsider retirement following Pacquiao’s revelation.
A report earlier this week said a Pacquiao–Mayweather rematch is “being explored” and could even be streamed on Netflix.
“We’re finalizing a few conditions. I’m hoping we can agree on a deal,” Pacquiao said.
If the negotiations push through, the Pacquiao–Mayweather sequel could mark one of the biggest boxing comebacks in recent years.
