BingoPlus Foundation delivers P6-million aid to Cebu quake victims

BingoPlus Foundation, the social development arm of DigiPlus Interactive Corp., delivered P6 million in aid to some 56,000 residents in northern Cebu, following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake on Sept. 30.

The relief, funded by DigiPlus Interactive and BingoPlus, targeted six municipalities and was distributed across a phased approach from Oct. 5 to 23.

Distribution efforts were complicated by aftershocks—including a magnitude 5.8 tremor on Oct. 13—as well as heavy rains, infrastructural damage and impassable roads that made accessing far-flung areas difficult.

“This P6 million support from DigiPlus and BingoPlus represents an immediate lifeline for tens of thousands of individuals who lost their homes, livelihoods, and some even their loved ones,” said BingoPlus Foundation executive-director Angela Camins-Wieneke.

The foundation worked with BingoPlus branches, local government units, the Philippine Army 53rd Engineering Brigade, the Philippine Accessible Disability Services (PADS), and supply chain networks to execute the complex logistics and deliver relief packs barangay-to-barangay.

The foundation said it intends to continue working with its partners to assess the evolving needs of the communities as the long-term recovery process progresses.
