President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. held bilateral talks with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the sidelines of the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
In their meeting on Sunday, Marcos and Guterres discussed key areas of cooperation and reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining peace and stability, fostering economic growth, and ensuring social development and equality.
“I conveyed that the Philippines will continue to be a champion of climate action and a reliable partner of the UN,” the Filipino leader said in a statement.
President Marcos said he and the UN Secretary-General looked forward to fostering bilateral cooperation and UN’s continued support to ASEAN and the ASEAN-UN framework.
Meanwhile, President Marcos and Prime Minister Pham committed to strengthen cooperation across government and in economic and security areas during their bilateral meeting on Monday.
The two leaders expressed interest in expanding economic diplomacy and enhancing bilateral strategic partnership.
President Marcos also thanked Vietnam for its continued assistance to the Philippines during periods of drought and rice supply challenges.
President Marcos held bilateral meetings with the leaders of Cambodia, Thailand, Canada, European Union, and Japan on the sidelines of his participation in high-level meetings with other world leaders.
The President arrived in Kuala Lumpur on October 25 for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which opened on October 26 and will conclude on October 28.
