GSIS assures members of financial stability, transparency after House inquiry call

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has reassured its 2.7 million members and pensioners of the pension fund’s continuing financial strength and stability following the filing of House Resolution No. 415, which seeks an inquiry into its investment activities.

GSIS president and general-manager Jose Arnulfo Veloso said the fund remains financially sound and well-managed, citing total assets of P1.92 trillion and a net income of P100 billion as of August 2025. “These figures clearly show that the fund continues to grow and remains secure,” Veloso said.

Veloso said a reported P8.8-billion “loss,” mentioned in earlier news reports, is baseless and does not appear in the GSIS’s official audited financial statements.

He said that all investments follow three fundamental principles: safety, liquidity and yield. Every investment, he said, undergoes rigorous evaluation by the Investment Committee, Risk Oversight Committee, and the board of trustees, along with due diligence and strict compliance with the investment policies prescribed under Republic Act 8291.

The pension fund reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, noting recent dialogues with stakeholders including the Teachers’ Dignity Coalition, Action and Solidarity for the Empowerment of Teachers, Philippine Government Employees Association, Philippine Alliance of Retired Educators, and the GSIS Retirees Association.

“These consultations are part of our commitment to engage with members and pensioners directly, to clarify issues, and to ensure that correct information is shared,” Veloso said.

The GSIS management reiterated that it operates strictly within its legal and governance framework and safeguards contributions through “prudent, lawful, and transparent investments.”

It urged the public to refer only to official, audited reports for an accurate understanding of its financial performance.
