Great execution of plays brought Team Philippines the women’s group B crown in the 2025 Pan Continental Curling Championships.
Skipper Kathleen Dubberstein said this after the Filipinas blasted Kazakhstan, 11-2, on Sunday (US time) in the finals at Eleveth, Minnesota.
“I’m incredibly proud of my teammates and how we performed throughout the tournament. It’s such an honor for all of us to represent the Philippines on this stage,” said Dubberstein in an online interview with the Manila Standard.
The Filipinas reached the finals after easing out Hong Kong, 10-6, in the semis.
In their clash with the Kazakhs, the Filipinas raced to a 5-0 edge after three ends.
“This was the first time Jessica and Lindsey competed in this event, and they’ve been outstanding additions alongside my sister Lani and me,” added Dubberstein.
Kathleen and her sister Leilani led the squad and had new additions Jessica Byers and Lindsey Schmalz playing well with them.
The Kazakhs, captained by Angelina Ebauyer, bounced back by scoring two stones in the fourth end, 5-2.
“The instructions were really just to keep playing at that high level as they have all week. Also to stay confident in themselves and each other,” said coach Miggy Gutierrez.
The Filipinas replied with two stones in the fifth end for a 7-2 led.
From there, the Filipinas never let go of the lead from the momentum they gained.
The Filipinas will be part of next year’s World Championships with the Group B honors that they earned.
