New player Voltai introduces two-wheel EV and battery swap ecosystem for fleets

Startup venture Voltai introduced its inaugural product, the AP01 two-wheeled EV at a launch event held recently at Cleanfuel Pasig City. Along with the product, came the business model: a fully integrated battery swapping ecosystem. Guests from logistics, food and beverage delivery, and ride-hailing sectors were immersed in the experience of navigating Voltai’s two-wheel battery swap procedure which is supplemented by its own mobile application. This is the first system of its scale in the country. Voltai is a startup under 1882 Energy Ventures, a company under Aboitiz Power Corporation. Still in its pilot stage, Voltai has already partnered with fuel retailer Cleanfuel, as well as co-living and dormitory brand MyTown, to situate 15 battery swapping stations within their respective locations. Voltai plans to further expand next year in Metro Manila and nearby provinces and establish robust after-sales support. Voltai’s business model involves leasing its EVs and batteries for a fixed fee, a strategy designed to shield client businesses from rising vehicle costs and fuel price hikes. This approach is intended to make it easier for businesses to scale cleaner and more sustainable fleets and lower their overall emissions. Businesses transitioning to electric-powered fleets can also expect reduced maintenance costs.
