PAGASA lifts wind signals as ‘Salome’ wanes

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday afternoon lifted all wind signals after the former tropical depression ‘Salome’ weakened back into a remnant low.

“Due to the cold and dry air from the northeasterly windflow, ‘Salome’ weakened into a low pressure area at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday). The remnant low will continue to move generally southwestward and may dissipate within the next 24 hours,” PAGASA said in a 5:00 p.m. advisory.

The weather disturbance was last monitored at 145 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. It was moving southwestward at 30 km per hour.

Earlier on Thursday, PAGASA raised tropical cyclone wind signal no. 1 over Batanes, the northern and western portions of Babuyan Islands (Calayan Is., Dalupiri Is., Babuyan Is.), and the northwestern portion of Ilocos Norte (Bangui, Pagudpud, Burgos, Pasuquin, Bacarra, Laoag City).

This warning has since been lifted.
