Perpetual Help secured its position as the top team in Group A of the NCAA Season 101 men’s basketball tournament with a 69-60 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College at San Juan Arena on Wednesday.
The win followed their 71-65 triumph against Jose Rizal University on Saturday and ended the Generals’ two-game winning streak.
The Altas held a three-point lead (60-57) with 5:12 left in the fourth quarter until EAC’s Wilmar Oftana hit a long-range shot, tying the game at 60-all with 2:54 remaining.
However, this was the Generals’ last scoring effort, as Perpetual Help launched a decisive 9-0 run, initiated by a short shot from John Cedrick Abis at the 2:38 mark.
Abis contributed 15 points and eight rebounds, just two boards shy of a double-double. Mark Gojo Cruz added 12 points and JP Boral scored 10, combining for 22 points.
This victory maintained the Altas’ lead in Group A with a 6-1 record. Oftana’s 18 points for EAC were in vain, as the loss placed them in a tie with Jose Rizal University (3-4) in Group B.
