The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) northeast of Batanes, which is likely to develop into another tropical cyclone that will be named ‘Salome.’
Based on its early morning forecast on Wednesday, October 22, PAGASA said the LPA was spotted 370 kilometers north northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. The weather disturbance is expected to move southwest while approaching the province.
“It is still far from the landmass, so it is not yet affecting the country’s weather condition. However, it has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours,” according to PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin Galicia.
The state weather bureau reminds residents in potentially affected areas to keep monitoring updates, considering possible shifts in the LPA’s development.
According to PAGASA, current weather conditions in the country are affected by the intertropical convergence zone in Mindanao and easterlies in the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas.
