Filipino cue artist Marlon “Marvelous Captain” Manalo is making a much-anticipated comeback in the Philippine Open, where he is set to face former world champion Ralf “Kaiser” Souquet of Germany at the Gateway Mall in Araneta Center, Cubao.
The event marks Manalo’s return to the local billiards scene after a long hiatus, rekindling memories of his past triumphs over legends Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco “Django” Bustamante.
“The Philippine Open tournament will be a good test for me, that’s why I prepared well for it,” said Manalo, who remains a respected figure on the international pool circuit.
The 47-year-old veteran, fondly known as “The Marvelous Captain,” remains optimistic about his chances of reclaiming glory.
“I still believe I can become a Philippine Open champion,” added Manalo, a multi-time winner in the U.S. Pool Circuit and runner-up to Reyes in the 2004 World 8-Ball Championship.
