ABS-CBN raises the stakes in primetime drama with What Lies Beneath, a suspense thriller starring Janella Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Kaila Estrada, and Charlie Dizon.
The four actresses lead a story that dives deep into loyalty, guilt, and the haunting weight of truth.
The series follows Alice (Salvador), Mel (Ramirez), Erica (Estrada), and Beth (Dizon), friends bound by one secret that threatens to destroy everything they hold dear. As lies begin to unravel, alliances crumble, and survival turns into a desperate struggle against both danger and conscience.
At the media launch, creative producer Arah Badayos and head writer Benson Logronio said the story examines the thin line between right and wrong.
“It’s clear in the trailer that there was an injustice done,” Badayos said. “Pero mapapakita rin na it was not simple, the people who caused the injustice are victims of injustice themselves.”
Ramirez said the show’s emotional core lies in its portrayal of womanhood and resilience.
“This is centered on friendship, love, family, and womanhood. It’s about different kinds of women and how they face their problems. The suspense and thriller elements make it even more powerful,” she said.
Dizon described the project as a tension-filled story with moments of humor and action.
“May tinatago ang bawat character, so ‘yon ang dapat niyong abangan,” she said.
Estrada shared that the story’s strength comes from its honesty.
“This show is about seeking truth and justice,” she said. “And because it’s led by four strong women from different walks of life, it also speaks deeply about womanhood.”
Joining the ensemble are Jake Cuenca and JM de Guzman, who take on darker, more complex roles alongside Jameson Blake, Yves Flores, and Race Matias. The series is directed by Dado Lumibao and Froy Allan Leonardo.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Kane Errol Choa explained why What Lies Beneath is airing ahead of another ABS-CBN show originally scheduled to premiere this month.
“The launch of Roja has been moved to November due to weather conditions affecting production,” he said. “What Lies Beneath is ready, and we’re excited to bring it to viewers. Our priority is always to deliver high-quality entertainment.”
What Lies Beneath premiered on Netflix last night. Today, it premieres on iWantTFC and on Oct. 20 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
