NEA’s loans to electric cooperatives hit P1.98 billion in third quarter

The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said at least 32 electric cooperatives (ECs) across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao accessed a combined P1.98 billion in loans in the third quarter of 2025 to fund their power distribution operations.

The latest data from the NEA Accounts Management and Guarantee Department (AMGD) showed that the agency’s utilization rate for regular loans reached 104.86 percent as of Sept. 30, 2025, with P1.88 billion disbursed against an allocation of P1.79 billion.

Twenty-four ECs collectively borrowed P982.25 million for capital expenditures (CapEx), while eight ECs were granted P900 million in working capital loans.

One Mindanao-based EC received both capex and working capital loans. Another EC on the same island group was provided a separate P100-million calamity loan for the rehabilitation of its power distribution lines, which were damaged by Typhoon Odette in 2021.

The NEA allocates an annual budget for its lending programs to finance various EC projects intended to improve electrification services, distribution network systems and facility rehabilitation.
