Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) consumer banking head Maria Cristina Go has been named the Retail Banker of the Year at the World Financial Innovation Series (WFIS) Awards Philippines 2025 for her work in driving customer-centric innovation, digital transformation and inclusive growth within the bank’s retail operations.
The WFIS Awards recognize individuals and institutions that deliver measurable innovation and social impact, with the Retail Banker of the Year distinction honoring professionals who drive sustainable growth while keeping retail banking relevant in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
Go’s leadership has been centered on the development of BPI’s OneConsumer Bank, which the bank described as a unified, future-ready retail banking platform that serves more than 16 million Filipinos through over 800 branches and various digital channels.
She also spearheaded BPI’s “customer-first phygital” transformation strategy, which integrates trusted, human-centered branch experiences with advanced digital solutions.
Under Go’s leadership, BPI doubled its retail client base in three years, grew deposits to P2.6 trillion and accelerated digital adoption to eight million users, including 4.2 million active app users.
“This recognition is a reflection of what’s possible when we put clients at the center of everything we do,” said Go.
