Franchise event cites opportunities, success strategies

The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) Trade and Industry Committee held the Franchise Business Matching event on Oct. 11, 2025 at the Federation Building in Binondo, Manila.

FFCCCII president Victor Lim cited the significant role franchising has played in the country’s economic landscape over the past three decades.

“Franchising contributes as a powerful engine of growth in business and entrepreneurship,” he said.

He said the federation continues to champion its “Buy Pinoy” campaign, advocating for the patronage of Philippine-made products and supporting local industries to generate employment and attract investments.

George Siy, chairman of the FFCCCII Trade and Industry Committee, said that franchising is a powerful and proven growth strategy that is lower risk and serves as a good training ground.

Siy encouraged attendees to consider entering the franchising industry to create more jobs and contribute positively to the local economy.

Chris Lim, president of U-Franchise Sales and Management Inc. and CEO of Francorp Philippines, provided guidance on choosing the right franchise.

“Franchising is duplicating the success of a successful business,” Lim said.

According to him, more than 1,800 options are available in the Philippines, making it the 7th largest in the world. Finding the right fit, however, can be challenging.

Lim said entering franchising involves three key decisions: whether to be your own boss, whether to start from scratch or franchise an established business and how to select the right brand.

He said franchising offers a plug and play opportunity- using a proven system, brand name and ongoing support, though it requires an investment of time, money and network.

Lim urged aspiring franchisees to avoid franchises that are already struggling, as well as to ask critical questions about the franchisor’s support, profitability and market strategy.

Successful franchisors shared their journeys and valuable insights on what makes a franchise thrive.

Charles Sy, COO of Powerhouse Tools, cited the importance of passion, dedication and strategic location.

He said Powerhouse Tools thrives along highways and in developing neighborhoods where visibility and accessibility are key. He also pointed out that daily operations are diverse, requiring hands-on management and full dedication to succeed.

Ryan Lim, owner of Save 5 Laundromat, stressed the significance of passion and care, noting that laundry is a personal business that demands attention to customer service. He believes location is critical, especially in residential areas, dormitories and busy community zones where foot traffic is high.

Melodie Isaguirre, COO of Tapa King Inc., underscored the need for franchisees to have critical thinking skills, strong business mindset and belief in the brand.

She said running the business is not a walk in the park every day. Location is always the key, and the right location makes all the difference. Ideal locations include places with full parking spaces, active business communities, big villages, churches and BPO centers.

Overall, they all agreed that passion, dedication, strategic location, and a deep understanding of the target market are essential ingredients for a successful franchise.
