Bjorn Kristensen delivered a spectacular four-goal performance to lift the Philippine Men’s National Football Team to a commanding 4–1 victory over Timor-Leste in the third round of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
The triumph vaulted the Filipinos to the top of Group A following their match at the Territory Rugby League Stadium in Darwin, Australia.
The win came as a strong follow-up to the Philippines’ 2–2 draw against Tajikistan last June, reaffirming their determination to secure a spot in the continental tournament.
Kristensen, who plays professionally for KFUM Oslo in Norway, wasted no time making his mark. In the 15th minute, Sandro Reyes made a blistering run down the right flank and crossed the ball to Kristensen. Although his first attempt was stopped by the goalkeeper, the Filipino-Norwegian striker pounced on the rebound to slot in the opening goal.
He struck again in the 31st minute, outrunning the Timor-Leste defense before calmly firing home his second goal to double the Philippines’ lead.
Timor-Leste managed to pull one back early in the second half, with captain Freitas Gali muscling through the defense to score in the 47th minute.
However, the Filipinos quickly regained control. Just two minutes later, in the 49th minute, Kristensen completed his hat trick—finishing off a play that began with Dylan Demuynck’s cross, which deflected off Anizo Correia’s clearance and the crossbar before landing perfectly for Kristensen to tap in.
Kristensen sealed the victory in the 56th minute, capitalizing on another long pass from Reyes. He outran the pursuing defenders and coolly placed the ball into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the night, capping a remarkable offensive display.
The Philippine side now turns its focus to the home leg on October 17 at the New Clark City Stadium, where they aim to continue their strong start and solidify their path toward qualification for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.
