The Philippine Embassy in Canada has issued a warning about individuals using fake email accounts for fraudulent transactions, including the service of legal process.
In a social media post, the Embassy said individuals pose as personnel of the Philippine Embassy or the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
“The service of legal processes on Filipino citizens overseas is completed through personal service or registered mail in connection with cases pending in the courts of the Philippines,” the statement reads.
The Embassy emphasized that it, along with the Consulate General in Canada, does not send such documents via email.
It also urged the public to communicate only through legitimate email addresses and to avoid engaging with unauthorized or unverified email accounts to ensure safety and security.
On Tuesday, the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. issued a similar advisory regarding messages and accounts that falsely claim to be from Ambassador Jose Manuel G. Romualdez.
It warned that these communications may attempt to solicit personal information, money, favors, or “official” engagements.
