First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will play an active role in the upcoming renovation projects at the Philsports Complex in Pasig City, according to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick Gregorio.
Gregorio said the initiative is part of the PSC’s broader effort to upgrade sports facilities nationwide — including those at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila and Teachers Camp in Baguio City.
The First Lady, he added, has expressed particular interest in improving the dormitory and dining facilities used by national athletes.
“These upgrades will be implemented alongside the ongoing improvements at the Philsports Arena,” Gregorio said, noting that the arena is being prepared for the 2025 FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.
“The First Lady will be involved. Tuluy-tuloy ito,” he added.
The Philsports Complex track oval last underwent a major renovation in 2019 to meet international standards for the Southeast Asian Games. After nearly six years, it was reopened to the public in late August 2025, following a long closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gregorio earlier revealed that the PSC is also prioritizing infrastructure upgrades at the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, including the installation of improved flood control systems to address long-standing issues in the area.
“These developments will be fast-tracked in the coming months as we aim to provide better, more accessible training facilities for our national athletes preparing for international competitions,” Gregorio said.
He added that the PSC intends to preserve the heritage structures of the Rizal Memorial Complex — particularly the athletics, football, baseball, and basketball venues — which are considered important historical landmarks. The preservation and modernization plans will be guided by architect Raul Alcarazen.
