MDPPA: 2025 Motorcycle Sales Ride High After 8 Months

The local ‘two-wheel’ industry has maintained a strong upward trajectory this year, recording robust double-digit growth in unit sales across the first eight months of the year, according to the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA).

Overall sales from January to August 2025 hit 1,227,160 units, marking an 11.8% increase compared to the 1,098,056 units sold in the same period of 2024. Highlighting August figures, 2025 saw an 18.4% jump year-on-year with 158,228 units sold, compared to only 133,689 purchased in August 2024.

This sustained market expansion is largely attributed to the enduring demand for motorcycles as a practical and affordable mobility solution for Filipinos, particularly in navigating increasingly congested urban roads. Earlier this year, the MDPPA had projected a more conservative five percent overall growth for 2025.

Automatic motorcycles remain the leading segment among Filipino consumers, with August 2025 sales reaching 106,382 units, a significant 24.8% increase year-on-year. Mopeds also posted growth, with 21,805 units sold, up 3% from the previous year. Furthermore, business motorcycles also saw strong demand, recording 26,399 units sold, a 14.4% rise from August 2024.

The only segment to register a decline was the “Other” categories—which include Street Models, Big Bikes, Off-Road, 3 Wheeler, and Electric units—dropping by 13.7% to 3,642 units.

Despite this localized dip, MDPPA President Engr. Alexander A. Cumpas expressed confidence in the market’s health. “Despite declines in some segments, the industry as a whole remains in a healthy position, and we are confident that the broad appeal of motorcycles will continue to drive demand moving forward,” Cumpas stated. He added that the positive trend underscores the “enduring relevance and growing importance of motorcycles in the everyday lives of Filipinos.”
