The Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group (PNP-Avsegroup) apprehended a 47-year-old English teacher from Portugal after he was found in possession of a small plastic containing cannabis at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday, October 2.
The foreigner was set to depart for Davao when a security screening officer identified a pair of scissors in his backpack during an X-ray examination at NAIA Terminal 2.
As scissors are classified as a security risk item, the bag underwent immediate manual inspection.
During the search, authorities uncovered a small plastic containing cannabis, in addition to the scissors. This led to the arrest of the passenger.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while the prohibited substance has been handed over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for a final confirmatory test. Joel E. Zurbano
“There is no place for illegal activities in our airports. No matter where you are or who you are, what is forbidden is forbidden and what is illegal is illegal,” said PNP Avsegroup chief Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad.
