DOTr’s P197b budget passed, to focus on commuter ease

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced it had secured approval from the House of Representatives for its proposed P197 billion budget for 2026.

In a joint motion, both House majority and minority members agreed to terminate interpellations for the DOTr’s 2026 budget.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez expressed his gratitude to the lower chamber for supporting the agency’s budget, which he said is focused on easing the plight of commuters.

“We thank House Appropriations Committee Chair Mikaela Suansing, Vice Chairs and DOTr budget sponsors Rep. Edwin Ongchuan and Rep. Reynante Arrogancia, House Transportation Committee Chair Franz Pumaren, all House leaders and the entire House,” Lopez said.

“Their support for our budget is very helpful in fulfilling the goal of our President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to make our daily commutes easier.”

The acting transport chief stressed that the DOTr’s 2026 budget will speed up the construction of big-ticket projects in the railway, aviation, road and maritime sectors.

“We assure our fellow citizens that we will accelerate the construction of projects that will speed up and make our fellow citizens’ journeys easier,” Lopez said
